Care for Kids
Care for Kids is Iowa’s Medicaid program for children, birth to 21 years of age. All children who get Medicaid are enrolled in the Care for Kids program. You may also hear the program called EPSDT. EPSDT stands for Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment program.
Iowa Care for Kids includes:
• Routine Preventive Care
• Physical exams
• Growth checks
• Immunizations and lab tests
• Review of motor skills, talking, learning, social skills and behavior
• Vision and hearing screening
• Dental exams
• Advice about healthy living
• Referral for treatment if there is a problem
Needed Treatment:
• Medical care (hospital and outpatient)
• Prescription drugs
• Speech, physical and occupational therapy
• Mental health/substance abuse help
• Hearing care including hearing aids
• Vision care including glasses
• Dental care
• Personal care and medical equipment
Support to:
• Find a doctor or dentist
• Make an appointment
• Arrange transportation
• Get an interpreter
